A Good Day On The Gunpowder – 2/9/15

Categories:

Hey Rob, After stopping in the shop yesterday I proceeded to drive to the York Road parking, it was completely full so I went to bunker hill, also pretty full.  Talked to a lot of guys that had no luck and had been there all morning.  I got in the water and within 15 minutes caught a fish and missed several others.  I then caught a rainbow a couple hours or so after that.  Czech nymphing was the method of choice and for me it was a successful day.  Thanks for the advice, license, and new zinger! See you soon,Read More

From Gunpowder fly fishing beginner to Gunpowder fly fishing novice

After many years of fishing the Gunpowder River with many difficulties, I finally stumbled upon Great Feathers. Unlike any fly shop i had visited before, the folks here were knowledgeable, passionate and eager to help a fellow angler out without coming across as pushy salesmen. For the past 3 years, this has become my go to shop and my success on the gunpowder has improved as a result. The shop has everything for the novice angler to the die hard expert and their quality selection of gear is unrivaled. I highly recommend anyone to stop by and chat it up with the folks at the shop;Read More

Great Feathers itself is also an example to other fly shops

I discovered Great Feathers nearly by accident, a year after moving to the area. I fished the Gunpowder hard that first year with some success, but had found all my fishing spots by luck, and was having to satisfy my tying needs with the accumulated detritus in the bottom of my tying kit. Since I became acquainted with Great Feathers and the staff there, I have gone from catching small Gunpowder trout to catching larger trout all over the state, plus carp, shad, and smallmouth. I have even hooked some salmon and steelhead in New York, something entirely new toRead More

Fly Tier’s Bench Regular Comments on Great Feathers’ Materials

I just got home from a visit to Great Feathers – it’s been a while since I last stopped. I must say – it was refreshing to pay you a visit and stock up on my needs for this winter’s tying. In today’s world where fly shops seem to be closing their doors and we need to rely on other ways to get our materials – Great Feathers is a welcome change and I really enjoyed my visit. It’s especially hard to get materials for tying the classics and my need for silk floss was met. Thanks much again andRead More

Great Feathers shop is far and away the best supplier of quality materials

I think that for fly fisher folks who tie, the Great Feathers shop is far and away the best supplier of quality materials that I’ve ever been in. And if they don’t already have something that you specifically want, they will cheerfully go out of their way to try and find it for you. It’s definitely the place to check out when you’re in the market for your tying needs.

Gunpowder Business Fly Fishing and Guide Experience

Categories: Tags: , ,

I was on a business trip in Maryland and decided to visit a friend in Baltimore.  He suggested that we try fly fishing on the Gunpowder River near Sparks.  Well, I never did fly fishing but the prospect seemed quite interesting if not a little challenging.  He recommended that we go to Great Feathers and try a guided trip.  Since I had no gear and no experience, that certainly seemed like a good approach. After a good cup of coffee at the Daily Grind, our guide, David, came to pick us up and lead us to a very secluded areaRead More
